Creative Writing is a Semester Course taught from Minneota Public to area schools via Moodle through the SW/WC Service Cooperative.

All lessons and assignments are completed online.

Grades:  11-12

Prerequisite:  Successful Completion of Language Arts 10 (or local equivalent)

Creative Writing Syllabus (on googledocs)

Expectations for Student Participation:

Just as in a regular F2F (face-to-face) course, students enrolled will be expected to spend at least 50 minutes per day doing the equivalent of in-class learning time, plus additional homework and writing time.  And, just as in F2F courses, some days there will be less and some days there will be more.

Students will be expected, at the very minimum, to:

  • Check in with the Moodle Course daily for lessons and assignments.
  • Participate in all scheduled conferences via Moodle.
  • Participate in collaborative communication events (via Moodle or other online medium) where messages are posted among students and teacher.
  • Submit assignments by due dates, and, when required, comment on other student work in peer review.
  • Submit questions to the class in general (via electronic means) or to the instructor in specific (via electronic or telephone) as they arise.

Course Goals:

  • To strengthen students' knowledge and awareness of various forms of creative writing.
  • To hone students' skills in conceptualizing and implementing various forms of creative writing themselves, using the writing process of prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing.
  • To further skills in peer review and literary critique in a workshop setting.
