Single Survival
In this class, students will learn about being on their own, get acquainted with goal setting and consumer decisions including the use of sound buying principles when choosing an apartment, buying principles when choosing an apartment, buying a house, car, furniture, appliances, and other purchases. Insurance types and options such as home, tenant, car, and life insurance, money management, responsibilities, career decisions, food preparation, and other survival skills will be covered.

Child Development
Students will learn about theories of child development, effective parenting skills, discipline, pregnancy, prenatal development, heredity, birth, and infant care. The physical, social, intellectual and language development of infants, toddlers and preschoolers are studied. A Case Study, other observations of children from newborn to 6 years, and a parenting simulation are included.

Foods I:  Exploratory Foods
Students will learn about food technology and food choices, safety, and sanitation, food-borne illnesses, function of ingredients in recipes, and recipe reading. Nutrition is studied including function of nutrients, nutrition and fitness, The Dietary Guidelines, the Food Guide Pyramid, cooperation, meal preparation and time management plus the different methods of preparation and techniques.

Foods II:  Creative Foods
Students will use skills gained in Foods I to further knowledge in nutrition an foods preparation. Topics include baking muffins, coffee cakes, breads, pies, cookies, cakes, and cake decorating, grilling, foreign foods, and regional American foods; wellness issues related to food, consumer food choices, and management, planning/preparation/service of foods for special occasions.

Creative Crafts and Clothing
This is a hands-on course where students will learn basic construction skills and concentrate on making fashionable clothes and decorative items for the home. Students will have the opportunity to learn and work with many different crafts and craft techniques. Students will work on an individual skill basis selecting and making items of their choice. Creativity and skill development will be emphasized.

Housing and Interior Design
this project-oriented course is designed to teach the aesthetics of architectural styles, analysis of housing selection and floor plans, home furnishings and furniture arrangement, and the application the elements of design. The emphasis of this course is on the interior design and decorating.

Contemporary Living
This course presents a fresh look at life in today's world. It explores all aspects of life including personality development, communication, relationships with family, friends, and at work, mate selection, marriage, divorce, money management, family planning, parenthood, handling crises, aging, and death and dying.
