  Civics 9   This course has two major focal points:  career investigation and U.S. citizenship.  Civics is designed to teach the students the basic information concerning our government and the opportunities and problems that face us.  Students will gain an appreciation about our democracy's many privileges and an awareness of the obligations that accompany these privileges.  Besides education in the government, they will also get information on careers.  This career education puts an emphasis on exploratory experiences necessary in career decision making.

  American History 11  American History 11 requires students to read and work on assignments covering a designated area and time period.  Students will frequently be questioned about the material they read in order to check if they understand and comprehend  it.  Lectures will be given to fully explain concepts and events.  This course is aimed at the past, present, and future of the U.S., showing the significance of the past to the present and the future.

   World Cultures  World Cultures is a course that will inform students about other cultures and help provide students with a multicultural and global perspective.  They will also learn cultural, political, and social developments in both the east and west which will help students understand global viewpoints.  This is a course that relates the current world to that of the past.

   World Geography This course examines physical and cultural geography and helps students understand how people interact with their environment.  A few of the aims of this course are:

1abu199.gif (785 bytes)  To know and understand that culture and experience influences people's perception of places and regions.

Sociology  Life is often more complex than we realize.  We live in a complex social environment and it is within this environment that our relationships with other human beings take place.  This is what is looked at in sociology.  Topics covered include:  education, religion, crime minorities, and others.

   Psychology This course focuses on the study of human behavior.  Students will have the chance to study what psychologists have learned about why people do what they do.  Such topics as perception, intelligence, creativity, growing up, and personality will be covered.

  Economics  Economics is designed to connect high school economics to the business world.  The students will have a chance to make and run their own company.  Other  hands on activities and computer simulations will be used to build management skills.

  Political Science  Political science is the study of American political systems with the emphasis also on different governments.

  Criminal & Civil Law  Criminal and Civil Law is aimed at trying to provide the basic knowledge of the law and  legal processes.  The student will be able to analyze, evaluate, and discover the paths that are open to them to resolve legal disputes.

    College Psychology  This course is the study of what psychologists have learned about why people do what they do.  Students will meet 3 days a week for discussion of assigned chapters and testing.
