In
the Spanish program, students will enhance global perspectives, become aware of
other cultures and acquire skills for cross-cultural communications.
Spanish I, Spanish II, and
Spanish III are offered.
Spanish I
Students will use a variety of activities, games, and projects, to communicate
and understand simple greetings, expressions, and grammatical concepts.
They will participate in cultural listening situations, understand simple texts,
handle courtesy requirements, and interpret cultural situations. Students
will also be able to communicate on a variety of topics such as months, times,
weather, travel, foods, and celebrations.
Spanish II
Students will use activities, dialogues, games, and projects to further develop
communication skills. Students will build on a basic understanding of
simple greetings, expressions, and grammatical concepts. Students in
Spanish II will interpret simple texts. Past and future tenses will be
introduced and cultural interpretations will be expanded. Topics include
markets, shopping, bartering, transportation, daily routines, education, and
cultural celebrations and pastimes. Projects include storytelling, writing
short compositions, reading from Spanish literature, interpretation and
translation.
Spanish III
This is an opportunity to
fine-tune and practice skills and vocabulary learned in Spanish I and II.
Students will practice understanding native speakers on familiar topics,
narrating, describing and creating in Spanish. Projects will include
writing short compositions, oral communication and peer reaching. Topics
of study include nationality, personal descriptions, community , family,
directions, cultural features and protocol.
