¡Hola! Soy la maestra de español. Hi, I’m the Spanish teacher,
Señora Liljenquist. You can just call me Señora. I have worked in
Minneota teaching Spanish since 1997. I was born and lived on
the Westside of St. Paul during my childhood and that’s where I
started learning Spanish. I continued studying Spanish through high
school and college and studied abroad in México and Costa Rica. I
attended the University of San José in Costa Rica and have degrees
from Luther College and Mankato State.
Knowing a second language connects me to the many peoples and
cultures that use Spanish as their primary language. I have met
some very interesting people and formed meaningful friendships
through communicating in Spanish and traveling. The influence of
Spanish speaking peoples of Spanish, Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban
and other descents is tremendous in our country. Large parts of the
United States were originally settled and possessed by Spanish
speaking peoples and their contributions to our nation are
countless. To me, studying the Spanish language is a part of
understanding who we are as Americans and our interconnectedness to
the world. I am delighted when my students practice speaking and
writing Spanish outside of class and make new friends. Bienvenidos
a mis clases! Welcome to my classes! “Monolingualism” can be cured!
