Why a New Playground?
Every child deserves a place to play, learn, and belong.
For many years, the current playground has been a place where Minneota students have laughed, explored, and made lasting memories. While it has served our school well, it no longer meets the needs of today's students or reflects the inclusive environment we strive to provide.
The Viking Playground Project is about more than replacing aging equipment. It's about creating a welcoming space where children of all abilities can play together, explore, and build friendships for years to come.

Why Change?
Accessibility
Our current playground was built before many of today's accessibility standards and inclusive design practices became common. The wood chip surface makes it difficult for wheelchairs, walkers, strollers, and students using mobility devices to move freely throughout the playground.
The new playground will provide an accessible surface and play features designed for children of all abilities.
Safety & Equipment
The existing playground equipment has reached the point where repairs are becoming temporary solutions instead of long-term fixes. While routine maintenance has helped extend its life, replacement is the best way to continue providing a safe environment for students.
The new playground will meet current safety standards while offering durable equipment designed to serve students for many years.
Surface & Maintenance
Wood chips require continual maintenance and replacement. They scatter easily, create uneven walking surfaces, and can become muddy after rain.
The new playground will feature a poured-in-place rubber surface that provides improved accessibility, better fall protection, and lower long-term maintenance.
Shade & Comfort
Students spend time outdoors every school day. Our current playground offers very little shade, leaving equipment and play areas hot during warmer months.
The new design includes integrated shade structures that help create a safer and more comfortable play environment.
Looking Ahead
The Viking Playground Project is an investment in our students, our families, and our community. By replacing our aging playground with an inclusive, modern space, we are creating opportunities for every child to play, explore, and grow together.
